Still, somehow, relying on good defence and battling every ball, Spartacus managed to get 1-1 tie…
In late 9pm game, neither of teams had shown high quality of play, but despite missing number of key players, Spartacus was definitely a better side, creating numerous scoring chances and only lack of focus and good goalkeeping prevented a higher than 2-0 score…

Although Spartacus 2000 players controlled most of the game, KNSC goalkeeper and defenders managed to deny all the scoring chances and keep scoreless result after 25 minutes. During the second half, Spartacus reorganized and added more intensity, scoring two nice goals and missing few more good chances. Final score was 2-0.

Congratulations to Spartacus 2000 players for reaching the final of Downsview Park Youth Holidays Tournament.

Spartacus 2000 easily won the group stage of the Tournament, beating NY Cosmos (7-0), Dixie (4-0) and Waterloo (3-0). Despite having an extremely short bench due vacations and injuries, Spartacus boys provided an admirable performance against Vaughan Battlecats in the final. While Vaughan had a slight advantage, both teams managed to create few scoring chances, but both teams’ defences and goalkeepers were on top.
After 0-0 in regulation, teams went to a dramatic penalty shootout, after 6 penalties for each team, Vaughan came on top, winning the tournament.

Despite creating more scoring chances and having higher ball possession, Spartacus players failed to score. Brampton Blast proved to be a more efficient side by scoring one goal and winning this game.

In a physical game between two next summer CSL L3 opponents that could have gone either way, neither team created any real scoring opportunities.

The Spartacus 2000 program can be described as unique for many different reasons. For the most part, our practices allow parents limited access and therefore we wanted to put together a sneak peak into one of our 4 weekly practices made up of Downsview Park, WWK, OSA and “Free Futsal Thursdays”.
The crew decided to take the opportunity to join in on our Friday evening practice at the OSA on December 2nd.

Much like any given Friday, practice began at 5:50pm with a short 10 minute “pow wow” between coach and players to briefly discuss the week’s events and the evening’s expectations.

After a short warm up, the team was separated into 3 groups to play intensive small sided games (both 4 v 3 and 3 v 3) which slowly progressed into small sided games with limited touches. During the entire training session, the coach’s focus was to encourage players to remain in motion, focus on accuracy, keep the ball on the ground, and at the same time encourage the boys to take risks and be creative.
At 7:10pm, the team gathered in the “Canada room” for a video session.

Players were presented with edited material of their past games, including both, learning and fun aspects. In addition, players were provided with opportunity to ask questions and discuss any related soccer aspects with the coach.
At 8pm players joined their families to celebrate a birthday of one of their teammates.

It was obvious that each and every player enjoyed this evening; moreover, the strong bond between the players was very noticeable.
It would be safe to say that there are stronger, faster and perhaps teams with greater achievements but if one spent an evening with Spartacus 2000, I doubt anyone could question this program’s commitment to it’s players both on and off the pitch.

In a paced game between two good teams, Spartacus players managed to finish most of their scoring chances, winning the game with the score of 6-0…

Spartacus and Erin Mills provided very aggressive, yet exciting game, which ended 1-1. Spartacus scored first in the beginning of the 2nd half, after good cross from the free kick. Erin Mills continued an old tradition of scoring late goals against Spartacus, scoring a late equalizer from direct free kick a minute to the end…
Spartacus 2000 opened its PISL season playing Mooredale Gold in Lamport Stadium. Mooredale started the game with significantly higher ball possession and it was noticeable that Spartacus players had a difficult time to adjust to the size and speed of the opponent, especially when it came to corners and free kicks.
Mooredale scored an early goal after a corner kick, but despite being a better side in the first half, Mooredale players had not created any real scoring opportunities. Second half was more even, with many fouls, when both teams fought hard for every ball and the majority of the game was in the middle of the pitch.
Mooredale managed to score one more goal after cross and good individual effort, but Spartacus replied immediately with great ball through and great one on one finish. The last part of the game was controlled by Spartacus, but despite few half chances score remained 2-1.
